How important is it to you/your environment that you have closed headphones? The open-eared SR-60s are going to give you a more realistic sound, but this advantage is defeated if you listen in a noisy area (or it may be irritating for others that they can hear your music). The HD 497s are certainly a decent model and probably one of the better choices if you need to be sealed off from your environment. Personally, I selected the SR-60s and have been quite happy. Comparatively (for me at least) the quality of the Grados is noticeably better. If you can get away with the open-eared design, I would highly recommend it. |

Both models are great, but (IMO) you will get a better, more realistic sound from the SR-60s. However, if you will be listening in a noisy environment, then the openness of the Grados is defeated and you'll be better off with the HD 497s. Personally, I have listened to both, and selected the SR-60s. |
