Default Detroit Audio Club Autosound Contest 9/16/2006


SMWTMS is the Detroit Area's Audio Construction Society. Meetings occur on
the second or third Saturday of odd numbered months. There is a door charge
of $5. Meetings are announced in the club publication named, LC, The SMWTMS

AUTOSOUND TWEAKING: DLC Design autosound measurement equipment will be
available at 10:00 AM for any member who wishes to make measurements and
adjustments prior to the contest. Tuning will be in the West Bay of DLC
Design.

DEMONSTRATION: Two Channel Expansion Formats for Surround Sound: Upgraded
demonstrations of 2 channel material up-matrixed to Dolby PL-II, DTS, Logic
7, etc., for comparison to the original stereo. This demonstration builds
on David Clark's talk at the last SMWTMS Autosound Event.

SIDE SHOW: State of the art in portable recording. Steve Maki and David
Carlstrom will play recordings made from shirt pocket recorders: M-Audio
MicroTrack and Edirol R09.

SIDE SHOW: DLC Design repeats the traditional offers to DUMAX woofers and
to help equalize systems with PTF.

SIDE SHOW: Catch of the day - any interesting audio systems or components
on hand

PROGRAM: AUTOSOUND CONTEST XXIV: MARTIN MARTH AUTOSOUND PRIZE:

AUTOSOUND CONTEST JUDGING: Judging will be in the DLC Design East Bay. As
in recent years the contest the judge will be objective. Cars will be
judged solely on PTF (Perceptual Transfer Function) measurements. PTF
includes, tone balance frequency response, maximum SPL, maximum bass SPL,
and Spatial Rendition. A points system will produce the final sco 5
points Tonal Balance; 5 points Soundstage; 0.1 point/dB for SPL over 100
dB SPL @ 10 % distortion; 0.1 point/dB for 40 to 100 Hz average SPL over
100 dB @ 10 % distortion; 0.1 point per Hz for extension below 40 Hz (-6dB
from target). Prizes will be funded from the proceeds of the SMWTMS Martin
Marth Auction.

AUTOSOUND CONTEST RULES: The autosound contest rules are unchanged. The
rules a 1) No charge for entering the autosound contest; 2)
Non-members must join SMWTMS for 2004 to enter the autosound contest; 3)
Frivolous entries may be rejected by the judges; 4) Time permitting,
tuning for best PTF score may be attempted. New this year is two prize
categories: maximum bass SPL; and best spectral balance.
