Thanks Will,

What 6550 current production would you recommend for heavy screen current in
AB2 operation.

Thanks,

Vin

Hi Will,

I have two old 400 PS Fenders. I will increase the screen R a bit I think.

....

I don't think you need to increase the value of the screen
resistors; that amp has a dedicated screen supply at half
of the plate voltage. Are you having a lot of screen failures?
If so, what have you been using for power tubes up until now?

Have bought tubes from lord valve(Willie),but he hasn’t sent me and many others catalogs in ages...

Willie is good at providing info on the phone usually, but I get tired of all of the political talk on the alt guitar forum where he hangs...

i come to amp forums to escape everyday bullcrap, not talk politics and religion

Nobody makes anyone read anything I post.

I'm working on some new catalogs. When
they're ready, I'll e-mail 'em to everyone on
my distro list. Until then, the telephone - invented
over a hundred years ago - is a marvellous
way for people to communicate. And if you
got over a hundred e-mails a day - many of
them from people without even a ghost of a
clue - you might tend to be a bit testy when
posting online. As for AGA, **** 'em. Seeing
them whine and screech about the three or four
links I post there every day is entertainment;
I long ago decided that the tricks and techniques
for tweaking guitar amps that I've learned and
developed over the past 50 years were not
going to be given away to clueless leftist assholes
who are looking for a free ride. And of course,
now we have this Inman asshole suing the pants
off everyone who's ever been within ten yards
of a vacuum tube...he's after guys who're smaller
than *I* am, and my outfit's pretty small. It would
certainly be poetic justice if he eschewed ordering
from me due to my rightwing politics. shrug

But Ligel, only a minute amount of stuff about tubes is ever written
in tube groups about tubes.

This was not always the case, and in 2001, maybe there were 100 posts
a day and hundreds of ppl around the world were building amplifiers.
Most of the chat and work was to to with audio amps.
Intermingled with the expressed interest in tubes, were a number of
flaming posts as one always gets, and considerable off topic subjects,
sex, politics, and religion for example, and when 911 occurred, it
seemed like someone bombed r.a.t itself, and almost endless hate for
arabs followed. Nothing was said about America's road toll or death
from shooting toll, or so many of America's shortcomings.

Anyway, nowdays almost nobody is building any amplifiers. Nobody wants
to discuss them. If they do talk about them online in un-moderated
chat groups its because they have almost psychopathic immunity to
anyone accusing them of being wrong about what they are saying, and it
seems their chief purpose of posting is to swagger about displaying
their big cock while saying it is the most righteous and biggest cock
in the world !

You see, most blokes who were so keen about finding out info about
tube use in amplifiers have all grown older and gotten dumber, and the
craze and obsession has faded down to a soporific zero nearly, as it
does with everything as age sets in. A man of 50 is as intersted in
amps as he is about having a good ****, but by 60, his wife runs from
him, and sex has never had, or ever persued, and there is no interest
in it. Nobody wants to discuss such things. So it is with many hobbies
which sustain men between 15 and 50.

So after all the people who did have something to discuss at r.a.t
just left because their interest collapsed, whadya think was left? The
signal reduced by -40dB, so the SNR rose dramatically. When you remove
the wanted signal, all that is to be heard is the noise, 2 or 3 posts
a day. Nevertheless, noise begets noise in discussion groups, and
those so prone to flaming and trying to fib their way through their
typing day instead of building anything tend to lose interest because
nobody really wants to discuss anything with them, and nobody takes
any notice of them. So even the noise fades down.

Some very few of us are left after previous better days in this group
and we still do retain keen interest in audio things. There are a few
like myself who work each day to earn a living from repairing and re-
engineering tube operated audio gear. But there are so few ppl here
working in "the trade" like me that I don't know who they are. The
very few ppl I know who really do know about vacuum tubes don't like
discussion groups. There used to be hundreds of them but they have
mostly all died, retired, expired, filled nursing homes, whatever.

So, in the absense of otherwise welcome disussions about tubes, there
are some long discussions about politics and religion, often because
such things, along with sex, are fobidden at polite dinner parties
which of course are fukkin so boring, as most honest ppl over 55 have
to admit. At 25, dinner party talk on sex politics and religion was
exciting, and often you'd get to root the fukking big titted shieila
across the table because she had the hots for you. There were times
I'd be discussing God and have a finger up the **** of the girl
sitting next to me. Not very often, but being young was all about
enjoying "cheeky pleasure" when ya could 'av it. Nobody gave a ****
about the amplifiers. But at 60, and at a dinner party, not one shiela
gets the hots for any bloke present, and there's a long list of stuff
one is fobidden to discuss. Nothing happens after the dishes are
washed, dried, and put away, except silence. Ghastly scenario to be
sure!
So blokes who have spent time here before and who are fairly well
adjusted, and not psychopathic do form some respect instead of none
for some others lurking here and they can talk about **** that's
banned at home, and seemingly banned everywhere else a man ventures.
Over 55, a man is expected to be seen and not heard. Blokes of 65, 75,
80, whatever really do wanna know if there's a fukkin God or not. They
do wanna know about the universe, and why things work the way they do,
and the wise will always question, question, question until they can't
question any more, and there is a hunger for understanding, when the
hunger for all that vain crap one wanted at 30 has faded.

So now just what is it you need to discuss so you can solve a problem
in an amp, or solve among your mis-understandings of tube audio
engineering? What useful thing can you bring to this group? Is it
another good question?

When in business, Andre, one cannot know if the person you are dealing
with is an arsole, peadophile, or right, left, or centre sort of
person. I've certainly traded with ppl I came to think of as at least
strange, and possibly even dangerous, but in fact, IMHO, the world
functions so well now because ppl just don't want to ever know any un-
charming details, they jus' wanna know how cheap you are.

I find it difficult to have a catalog, because everyone wants
something unique, so if I did have a catalog these few buyers would
desert me, leaving only those who like to read a catalog to find the
cheapest deal.

But I have a website instead, and its mainly for people who can think,
and of course there are so few of them.

Willy's sure enough very "right wing", but so damn what. He ain't been
arrested recently. Mus be OK. So those buying from Dear Willy should
just be happy and not worry. We live in tolerant times, and some ppl
still even vote Democrat.

Dear Andre, where hath thou courage vanished to?

Seems like only yesterday you aimed your slingshot at the Giants Of
Bull**** in Magnequest. And it became extremely dangerous to type the
words "leakage inductance" at r.a.t outside of a praising hym about
Magnequest, whose quest it was to crush anyone who disagreed with
anything Magnequest said. But I came here when only hot ashes
remained, and I was told by John Byrns ( I think) in about 2000, that
talking openly about magnetic properties of OPTs was dangerous.
Someone told me, I have a clear memory, but, unperturbed, I urged
everyone to discuss OPTs any way they wished. I would risk the B52s
sent to shut me up.

Fortunately, Instead of watching mainly USA produced TV shows on Oz
TV, I cobbled up a meagre website which has the odd word or two about
OPTs, and so I don't have to keep risking B52 and H-bomb attacks.

The poor old Republicans no sooner put up a bloke for election as an
alternative to Obama and then **** happens to spoil it - like serious
sex abuse allegations made against the newest wannabe. Ain't it amazin
how blokes get inta so much bother wantin to sitick dicks into
females. Seems like every Re-pub candidate has serious flaws. I dunno
why Lord Valve don't try to stand for President himself, if he
believes he's that good an' worthy of the job. And its only just
another job, and almost any idiot can do it, George W Bush prooved
that OK.

In Astraya, where I reside, and where many ppl have gorn astray, one
is led to think there are also many folks in the USA who have gorn
astray, and who are now wandering around aimlessly, unable to compete
with the be-dazzling performance of a former idiot enemy, China. Look
what the Chinese did last week with space station modules! What's the
USA doing to lead in space? Well, SFA really, but hey, lets fix
bothers here on Earth first before going into space, But that's also
not within budget limitations.

I heard on a radio show from an insignificant scientist that a
suitcase of Helium 3 would be able to be used to provide cheap energy
for billions in China for hundreds of years in new fangled reactors.
H3 is a bit hard to find here on dear little Earth, but plenny is on
the moon, and that's why the Chinese wanna go there; They don't jus'
wanna say **** about big steps for a man or mankind, they wanna bring
somethin' decent back from the joint, it helps pay for yum cha, and as
Chinese women lerve money, chinese women will root a bit the more if
they get rich at hubby's expense - and bravery in space. Maybe they
put up a Chinese moon flag, and tell everyone else here they hafta pay
a fee to land there. Sounds just like USA foreign economic policy is,
or was.

We are never told what happens after the world finds cheap abundant
electrical energy. I guess we/they/everyone ****s the Planet even
faster than with carbon powered electricity, because the more ppl
have, the more they want. But never mind this little detail, perhaps
the up coming Re-pub candidate will have a few answers but don't
hold'ya breath. I guess the un-elected CEOs of major corporations will
continue to increase their power in the world as politics as we used
to know it becomes increasingly irrelvent. In 2111, things will be
unimaginably different.

Patrick Turner.
