Default Replacement of IRF730 for Sonic Frontiers SFL-1

Is any MOSFET out there considered as an improvement of IRF730 for
direct replacment. My Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 hybrid has a IRF730 in
there.

What about 2N6768?

The Sonic Frontiers actually based on the design of Curcio Daniel II,
and Curcio has MTP3N40 for the same position instead of IRF730. I have
no idea the sonic character between both MOSFET. However, it should be
something out there better than both since transistor technology is
very mature today. Should be more linear, less noise and lower
distortion than the IRF730 and MTP3N40!

Any suggestions are welcome!

This is rec.audio.tubes, not rec.audio.mosfets

So I doubt anyone here would be able to help you choose a better
functioning & better sounding mosfet.

I'm with you on transistors. They sure have "matured" ie, gotten
older, which mearely means the boffins really can't make 'em any
better than they've ever been, which is highly questionable amoung so
many who'd rather die than have their nightly sonic entertainments
passed through umpteen pn junctions before arriving at ears to be
heard.

Meanwhile, the world tries to rush to PWM class D amps which is at
least as good as generic class B SS crap, and good switching ability
is what gives good sound, with no dependance on device linearity.
People who have written books n SS amp design such as Douglas Self or
Ben Duncan might be able to tell you more, but some ppl just don't
like mosfets, or just don't like bjts, or tubes, or whatever, so at
the end of the day, you gotta try several mosfet types and see what
works OK and sounds the best.
