delta 44 low record level
Hi! I've bought a brand new delta 44 sound card.
I set the line level to -10db. It seems that it is recording low. When I record with the sound blaster which comes on board, the record is higher. I've read on some posts on this newsgroup that a preamp is needed between the card and the mic. Now, I don't want to spend 300 bucks on a preamp. What can I do to use the power of the card and record in a decent level? thanks, Matias |

If you record microphone or guitar you will need a pre amp. no way out, buy
a pre amp. "Matias Woloski" skrev i en meddelelse ... Hi! I've bought a brand new delta 44 sound card. I set the line level to -10db. It seems that it is recording low. If you're getting into multi-track recording, a small mixer may be a good investment. This will provide a mic preamp, and let you easily interface other sources - tape etc. - to your computer. Mackie, Behringer do affordable models. No need to spend anything like $300. |

They've got considerably better ones than the mic input on the soundcard he was using before :-) A lot of good recordings have been made straight into a mixer. The average home user had never even heard of dedicated mic preamps until a very few years ago :-) |

A lot of good recordings have been made straight into a mixer. Yes but not a cheap home mixer . . . off cause it depends on the level and quality one need. If you are recording crap with a crap mic then a mic pre amp is not nessecery. The average home user had never even heard of dedicated mic preamps until a very few years ago :-) Then I am not avarage . . . and it isn't getting better by not beeing avarage . . . actually worse |

ok guys, Thanks all for your answers.
It seems that I would have to buy a preamp. I live in Argentina and things costs twice here. Anwyay, I still don't understand how the soundblaster records ok. It has a builtin preamp? thanks again, Matias "Mike Rivers" escribió en el mensaje news:znr1057755618k@trad... A preamp (or a mixer with mic level inputs) that costs less than $300, but if you're going to use a mic into this sound card, you need a preamp of some sort. You can buy a four-channel mixer with mic preamps for as little as $100 these days, and a simple mic preamp like the M-Audio Audio Buddy is about $100. Will they sound as good as a $300 preamp? Probalby not. Should you care? Not if you're on that tight of a budget. A little friendly advice. Don't ask which one is the best. You won't get an answer that will do you any good. Go shopping and buy what you can put your hands on. At this price point, sound quality isn't a serious consideration, functionality is far more important. -- I'm really Mike Rivers - ) |
