2nd hand, system, small room
Hi,
I'm looking at buy secondhand from ebay, want cd/amp/speakers. My house is an old spanish place, small rooms and tiled floors. I listen to rock/alternative/pop stuff Want to spend around £1000/$1800 Can anyone reccomend good value second items that might give me a good sound. Thinking of second hand Naim/Cyrus and a nice pair of bookshelves... Any ideas? |

I've found the Marantz in particular (from late 80s through 90s) to be great sounding stuff. You'll pay for the prestige of the name (Naim?) with British stuff and have trouble getting it fixed after. If you must buy British, look at Tannoy speakers. |

Ive tried the run-of-the-mill NAD/Rotel/Marantz stuff and found it all to be terribly lifeless, nothing special. As far as British stuff, the Brits make the best high-end hi-fi, period, so an obvious route... |

Arnie, could we do a quick DBT here.....? |

I would highly recommend this used equipment for a second/bargain high-end system: Integrated Amp: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ube&1154367716 $625. o.b.o. Or: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....ran&1153394301 $650. o.b.o. Spkrs: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....oni&1153848728 $750. o.b.o. CDP: For a second system I would not bo into high-end on a player. Just get an inexpensive player at your local store. Or, if you already have one then use it. If it has a digital output you can upgrade later by getting a decent DAC, such as: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....onv&1154625175 $500 o.b.o. Or http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls....onv&1152662290 $325. |

(double groan) Tubes v. SS seems gripping by comparison, and isn't even OT. |

Since you're a SS diehard, have you considered attending a meeting of the Smarmy-Winky Masturbation Club with Arnii & Tommi? Nothing sets off the titters like the word "tube". -- A day without Krooger is like a day without arsenic. |
