Default banana plugs

How important are banana plugs to overall sound quality?
I'm using the Radio Shack ones with the little set screws that fall out.
Should I be using something better?

This one's fine, Bwian. Keep it up!

If connected properly, they should work just fine with no
audible degradation, or advantage either, for that matter.

R-S also has some heavier, gold-type plugs that are
impressive (and expensive), and they have thumb-operated
screws that are more workable than the little screw jobs you
have. They also can accept heavier wire, which is a good
option if you have cable runs that are fairly long. The
thumb screws tend to work a bit loose over time, so you
would need to periodically check them for tightness against
the wire ends.

The advantage of double bananas over bare wire or single
bananas or pins or spade connectors is that you can
disconnect them "hot" and not worry about wires shorting
together. Also, because of the way they are styled, once you
have the wires installed on the plugs it is easy to hook
them up for proper polarity if you temporarily disconnect
them in order to briefly move the speakers and clean up the
area around them a bit.

Don't sweat connectors when it comes to sound. They all
"sound" the same. Even those expensive cheap spring clips
sound as good as any fancy connectors. Double bananas are
simply easier to work with.

Low contact resistance is good though. Not every 'banana' design assures that
though.

I prefer the type with a high pressure spring and then there are those
'bunched' type too ( Hirschmann ? ) that make multiple contacts.

Pros use Speakons of course ( high pressure self-wiping contact ) :-)

I guess the high cost of Speakons has prevented their adoption in hi-fi kit.
