D&R Vision Console For Sale
Description

This is a “38-frame” recording/sound reinforcement console currently
loaded as follows:

16 Deluxe Input Modules with Mic and Line inputs
04 Dual Line Modules (8 inputs)
02 Dual Subgroup Modules (4 groups)
01 Deluxe Master Module
01 Standard Master Module
01 Power Supply and Cable

While this configuration currently makes it a 4-bus console, the new
owner would only need to purchase 2 more Dual Subgroup modules to make
it an 8-bus console. And it has 8 (yes, eight!) Aux sends, plus a
“Mono” mix output. The current 24 input points could be doubled.

The Console was purchased early in 2000 and has been used by the
original owner in a non-smoking studio since then. It was taken out of
service in September, 2005. The 3 minor problems it had then were
repaired.

The original price was $9,400.
Sale price: $3,400.

D&R is a company in The Netherlands renowned for their quiet, clean
mixers. Their primary penetration of the U.S. market has been in
large-format film consoles like the Orion. The Vision, though smaller,
maintains the same specs and sonic integrity as their larger boards.
Claimed frequency response is up to 100k. We measured this one on
installation as being flat to 120k (-3dB point).

This console has a steel chassis (instead of aluminum or plastic), which
makes the Vision tough for road use and also provides protection from
RFI (radio frequency interference). This construction makes the console
fairly heavy.

Another outstanding feature is the location of the LED meter on each
input channel. Having input meters right alongside the faders makes it
easy to tell exactly what needs to be turned up or down, and which
channels have signal and which do not. This would be a life-saving
“live” feature. There are some other features that are designed for
sound reinforcement applications, but they do not get in the way of
studio operation.

The condition of this console is “excellent.” The three repairs we did
after decommissioning we
1) replaced LED on Power Supply that was burned out
2) cleaned scratchy Control Room Monitor pot
3) replaced faulty component in one of the Dual Line modules that
affected the sound.

These were the only known problems. The “Talkback” function has always
seemed a bit thinner than normal to me, but since it was usable I never
bothered to check whether it was actually misbehaving. Cosmetically,
the left “end cheek” got scratched a bit, apparently in the move to our
new location.
