Hey RATS,
Well I could not resist and I bought a bunch of tubes off a guy who had a
lot more but all I could afford at the time was the more obvious tubes.Alot
were lose but there were a bunch of preamp tubes that I grabed at 2 bucks a
piece.Figured what the heck. The ones I bought were mostly military boxed
12at7wb,5814wb,6189/12au7wa.And thirty or so Arcturus branded 5962.The
5963's are black plate with square getter on top.Cool lookin' tubes. But that
only gets one so far.
So I looked in the archives and see that some of these are resonable subs
for some circuits and that some folks say they tend to be noisey ect..But
they sure are cheap. So do people sort out the "good"ones and and let the
rest hang out in the tube stash.I am not a purist but I have a respect for
those that are.I am going to try them in a couple of amps, guitar and hifi
and see if I can use them in anything.
I need a good tube guide that explains all the wa,wt,wb and such.I see a
book called Tube Lore.Any thoughts on that?I see that alot of the common
subs have differant settings on my TV7.
One was 5y3wgtb/6807.It will not test as a 5y3.
Man I tell yah the more I learn the less I know.
Any way, I was just wanting to "talk tube".

Just watching it rain on Orcas Island
