Default help: comp based system

I am in the process of putting together a computer based recording system.
My
basic requirements a
- portability
- ability to record at least 32 tracks of audio (probably more)
- decent basic set of plug-ins for audio (verb/delay/comp/eq)
- automation of mixes (store fader moves/fx changes/etc)
- storage of mixes (to recall at a later time)
- include MIDI tracks
- sync to ADAT

budget around $4K

I am currently considering the following gear:
- 15" apple powerbook 1GHz G4 w/1 GB ram
- external firewire HD 200 GB +
- Logic Platinum 6 software
- MOTU 828mkII firewire interface

Now, a few questions:
1) any comments on the gear selection above, pro or con?
2) When using the MOTU 828mkII, can I buy a second one and use both together
to do 16 tracks of simultaneous audio through firewire?
3) any other things i should be considering?

Many thanks for any insights...

I would want to know 'how good' the A/D converters in the MOTU were.
MOTU don't give full specs on these. It seems from their literature that
you can use two 828's for 16 simultaneous tracks but perhaps you should
check that the laptop can handle it.
