Default FS NEVE 33114/b mic pre/eq

NEVE 33114/b modules. This is a custom version of the 33114 broadcast
module for the American market. These were from a major network's
remote truck. The Neve 33114 is the broadcast version of the highly
regarded 1081. The modules are all in excellent shape, looking and
sounding great. Recently used in the tracking of a major Rock Act's
latest record on drums, guitars and vocals. Here is a description of
the controls and features: Line amp -20 to +10, Mic Pre from -10 to
-80 (that's 80 db of gain-plenty for ribbons), Hi shelf at 15, 10,
6.8, 4.7 and 3.3, Mid bell at 390, 820, 1800, 3900, 8200, Lo Shelf at
33, 56, 100, 180, Lo roll off at 27, 47, 82, 150, 270. Eq in switch,
phase reverse switch. 6 available, $1200/per module. I am selling 1
module for $950 because the gain pot is intermittent (but it still
works). For information am864u@ no spam hotmail.com. Pics on request.
Thanks

Uhhh, no. The 3114 is a 3 band mic-pre/EQ from the 'broadcast series',
the 1081 is a 4 band mic-pre/EQ of an earlier vintage.

They employ the same BA-440 [or 640] output amplifiers... but the
similarity basically ends there.

Hi

I would love to know who gave you the idea that " The Neve 33114 is the
broadcast version of the highly regarded 1081" because it's utter nonsense.
The circuits are not identical and a 1081 has a darn great LO2567 output
transformer that would not fit inside a 33114 if you put it in a vice and
jumped on it. The 1081 is from a completely different Neve era and the 33114
is closer in design to the 31105.

The 33114/anything is a great little module but it so irks me to see these
unfounded extra "comments" banded around.

It would be more beneficial if you mentioned whether you are supplying the
29 pin Varicon mating connector with them and if the connector has the
essential 600 ohm terminating resistor soldered to it.

Hi

I was curious as to what the difference between the basic 33114 and
the 33114/b version is because it was a relatively rare module.

The problem with a lot of Neve modules is that they messed up the
numbering system. In the case of 35 series the /a version originally
meant that two little pips had been added at the rear of the front
panel at the top and bottom. This changed the engagement of the module
into a console and identified it from the first series 35 modules that
had a flat front panel. Normally a "/a" or "/b" means something less
dire than a serious mechanical change.

From what I can tell, assuming that you typed them correctly, the
33114/b had reduced facilities on the EQ. Your mid bell has only five
frequencies whereas the 33114 basic had ten (270, 390, 560, 820, 1200,
1800, 2700, 3900, 5600 and 8200Hz).

The Bass frequencies were different with five frequencies to your
version's four (33, 56, 100, 180 and 330Hz). You also didn't mention
the low pass filter, that I'm sure it is fitted with, with cut off
frequencies of 18K, 12K, 8.2K, 5.6K and 3.3KHz.

My gut feel is that there was something else different about the /b
(it was built around 20+ years ago so it's straining the memory cells)
and that it does have more mid frequencies than you list.

Does it have BA437 amps inside?
