Default How to record voice with .mid file coming from PC

Hi,

I am a newbie in home-recording and
have the following problem.

I would like to record my voice on music I wrote with
a notation program in the PC.
(I recently got a Yamaha MG10/2 mixing table, a Shure MS58 microphone,
I am writing the notes for the songs with the MusicMasterWorks
notation program and I record my voice with Audacity).

The problem I have is the following: I must be able to hear the music
coming from the PC through the headphones. So, what I do is, I connect
a cable into the PC out-line and the other end of the cable
into a mixing desk's mono entry.
If I then connect the headphones into the mixing table I can hear the
music in my headphones. That's what I want, so till here, everything
is OK.
The problem is this music is recorded together with my voice.
Is there a way to hear the music through the headphones while
recording
only the voice, thus without recoding the music coming from the PC?

Thanks in advance,
Viviane

I was wondering whether use of AUX buttons would help, but being
a newbie and not understanding quite well the technical language in the
booklet I didn't know what to do exactly to try out something like that.

Is it the AUX button on the mono line or micro line I should use?
Should the AUX button be turned to the left? Or to the right?

It would really be great if this would work.

Thanks a lot.

Well, I turned the microphone AUX button to the left , then to the right - it
doesn't seem to change anything.
Turned then the Aux button on the other channels, but still same result :
The music is still recorded with the voice.

Thanks anyway.

I have two cables:
- one goes from the PC line-in to the ST-OUT jack of the console -
this one allows me to record.(the micro cable is connected into
the special jack for micros on the console;
- another cable goes from the PC line-out to the LINE jack of the console -
this one allows me to get the music coming from the PC as to hear it
through thet headphones.

The AUX buttons are on the channels:
- where the micro is connected and
- where the LINE jack with the other cable is connected into.

Seems really very complicated!
I wonder whether simplest is not to put the headphones directly into
the PC line-out.

Forget about the st out jack .take the cable out of there. you want it in
the AUX OUT that way when you turn the aux dial on the channel strip it will
feed the aux out to the pc..only turn up the aux out on the voice channel.
