Default JL W3 v2 sealed or ported

some people at electronics places have said this:
ported subs can provide lots of bass
where as sealed gives good bass , nice and clear
sealed is suitable for jazz and classical that sort of stuff
ported gives more of a loose bass sound good for rap and rock

I have a Suzuki vitara (sidekick for those in the states) and am about to
build two single ported boxes for them (2 x JL12W3 v2D4) to fit behind the
rear seats. For those of you that don't know the vitara, there is not a

lot
of space behind the rear seats. If I make sealed boxes they will fit no
problem, if I make ported boxes they will have to be slightly taller and
just peak over the rear seats, which doesn't really bother me.
Question is, has anyone heard a sealed 12W3 and a ported W3, is there a

huge
difference between the two?
I know some people are gonna say have a listen, but rather than build two
boxes (one of each), I'd like to get your opinions.
What would you guys recommend?
I know ported should give an extra 3db or so, but I'm not entering any
competitions, I'm more after the sq option, and anyway, 2x12's will pound
with the best of them.
out of interest they will be driven by a Rockford power 500a2

TIA
Jeff

Not necesarily. I prefer sealed because the response is flatter and easier
to predict in a car. A ported box will *always* have a peak at the tuning
frequency and drop off sharply below that. But the bow you go with will
usually be dictated by how loud you want the music and what type of music
you listen to.
