Default S/PIF-optical cable/convertor question

TOSlink is OPTICAL
S/PDIF is ELECTRICAL.

Conversion requires active components.
Can't be done with a simple cable, at least not in the
practical/real world.

The minidisc player (output): a Yamaha MDX-E100, with what seems to be
a TOSlink digital optical output (plug is shaped like a rectangle with
two adjacent corners clipped off - is this TOSlink?).

Yes.

The sound card (input): a Terratec EWS88MT, with S/PDIF co-axial input
(not optical).

The M-Audio CO2 will do the job bidirectionally or feed two devices from
one source. Please see our Web site for details.
