Hi RATs!

Got some new tweeters and put a pair in some wounded open baffles.

Driver technology is making headway.

More than I ever expected

Happy Ears!

Al

PS units are 6 ohm 90dB 3/4" soft dome. Buyout at Parts Express.
Cheap! They do not advertise that they are from JVC/Japan, but, they
do sound great 8*D

How come you have wounded baffles? Maybe you could try sounded waffles
instead, then eat carefully after use if unsatisfactory thus achieving
environmentally sustainable recycling while constantly changing things
in your audio system.

Bur seriously, you are about right when you say driver technology has
mostly improved, at least IMHO.
Just about anything made in Northern Europe in the last 10 years is
better than anything made in the USA 30 years ago. So people who like
AR9 speakers for example should not assume they have good sound
because when I measure such old junk boxes I find them very poor. When
one replaces all the drivers and crossovers with north european made
units and then re-engineers all the X-overs and puts in better box
bracing and wool, then you have better sound. Ppl here paid $4,500 for
AR9 back in1976, and in today's $ its about $60,000, and they were
just NEVER EVER were good buys.
I quite like SEAS drivers from Norway.
Scanspeak now have a range of drivers with UNDERHUNG voice coil
design, ie, the magnet poles extend beyond the length of the voice
coil length. They look quite queer, but it seems Scan has been able to
economically make the iron magnet poles to suit the much increased
magnetic gap length. But is it just a market ploy? One pays very big
bucks for the new Scanspeaks.

Hi RATs!

Just noticed the tweeters are NOT from JVC/Japan. Like anyone cares

The midranges are... have not tried them, yet.

Happy Ears!
