Well, I've seen one good review on it. Sony does seem to be getting a bad name
from some people, I don't think everyone agrees. I haven't used Sony for a
while so I am not for sure.

Sony only has a bad rep because people abuse it, the protection circuits
kick in and they think the amp is bad. It will be fine. In all the years I
was in retail (all 13 of them) I had less bad Sonys than every other brand
combined.

What's wrong with it that it would get a bad rap? There was a guy that
finished second in competition with an all Sony setup. As long as the
equipment is not abused and it has the specs. that you are looking for,
don't worry about what other people think. I was thinking of getting that
one too, to match my Sony XM-1600GSD amp. Then I said who cares about looks
the amps are mounted under each front seat in my truck. I picked my amp off
someone that indicated that there was something wrong with it. It ended up
being a cold solder joint. What was neat about the Sony circuit board is
that they etch diagnostic values at various locations on the board, so if
you don't have a diagnostic schematic you can still at least zero in on the
problem area, which was what I did.

Can you use sony amps as ark-welders or maybe as fish finders?

Simple, dumbass. Overdriving them ot using them with bad speakers. I've
plenty of speakers play fine on lower end amps that wouldn't play on most
Sony, or even SoundStream Rubicon, amps because the protection circuits are
particularly aggressive. Change the speakers and viola, the amp works fine.

Well sweetness, wouldn't most amps display some sort of ill effect if you over
drive them with bad speakers? I wouldn't say that Sony protection circuits
are particularly aggressive, but I would say that they are poorly designed and
much too sensitive, if this is the case. But in all honesty you will not get
any good comments regarding Sony products out of me, as I have not found
anything good to say about them this far.. Well other then their digital
cameras.

Then you've never used the old G-series Sonys or the "big reds". Those were
all OUTSTANDING amplifiers. Yes, Son't has always had very sensitive
portection circuits, but I'd rather have that than a blown up amp.

I bought a Sony amp about 4 or 5 years ago from the local shop... can't
remember the model number, but it was a light blue color. I ran the hell out
of that thing pushing a Kenwood 12", then I ran 2 sets of coaxials off of its
2 channels, then my brother installed it in his Sporttrac running a set of
Alutek components... And it never once went into protection mode, never once
had a single problem. It was a great little amp.

Do you honestly think that speaker protection will save your amp? You would
think so, but the truth it far from that. I have repaired countless amps with
blown outputs that had speaker protection in place including a few Sony XM
amps.

Paul I have a Big Red that is pushing two Infinity Reference 1020ws. Yes
the protection kicks in sometimes but I have had the amp for more than 4
years with no problems. One of the most solid products I have ever
owned. I have heard so many bad stories about these amps due to misuse
and abuse. Mostly due to a poor choice of speakers as you mentioned. I
cant believe that people still think Sony is crap.

It may be overpriced but every Sony product I have owned has stood the
test of time. I honestly believe that they try to put good engineering
and testing to work in the process of bulding some of the most solid
electronic products out there. How many of you out there have a 20 year
old Sony TV. It still works great doesnt it? How many of you have old
Sony stereo equipent. It still works doesnt it? As long as you dont
abuse your equipment it will last. Andrew I dont think you should buy a
Sony amp if you dont want to. You can get similar quality and features
for less money from another manufacturer. But dont let these guys knock
Sony without years of first hand experience and considering the valid
point Paul and I have made.

As a matter of fact, I had a sony TV that had the converter die, it was about
3 years old. I also have a Sony Hu here that works fine other then the fact
that the volume control doesn't work, even via remote. It's just stuck at one
level. I have had a Sony home cd player that read the cd's when ever it felt
like it. I also had a sony playstation 1 that only worked when upside down, I
was also told that this was a common problem with the early models. Oh, and
lets not forget the Sony home theater system that I bought, the 5 disk dvd
player started getting weird lines in the screen then it stoped reading dvd's
all together, it was 18 months old and it played around 30 dvd's in it's time
, mind you the amp and speakers still work and now I am using a Panasonic dvd
player that I bought almost 5 years ago.

I can believe why people still think Sony is crap.

electronic products out there. How many of you out there have a 20 year
old Sony TV.

It still works great doesnt it? How many of you have old

Sony stereo equipent. It still works doesnt it? As long as you dont
abuse your equipment it will last. Andrew I dont think you should buy a
Sony amp if you dont want to. You can get similar quality and features
for less money from another manufacturer. But dont let these guys knock
Sony without years of first hand experience and considering the valid
point Paul and I have made.

EFFENDI

Based on my personal eperiences and many of those of my friends and
family I have NEVER had a serious problem with any Sony product. Im
sorry if you do, its probably due to misuse or abuse or stupidity.

Default SONY XM-460GTX 4channel?

Have a chat with your repair tech , unless you started doing repairs yesterday
or don't do any repairs at all, then you should of come across this problem.
I doubt that I'm the repair magnet for blown outputs. If I see a ****load,
then others must see even more come through their door, since I am only small
time at this.

You should ask AmpDoc or your local repair shop about that..

It must, because I can tell you I've seen VERY few ever die.

Do you honestly think that speaker protection will save your amp? You
would
think so, but the truth it far from that. I have repaired countless

amps
with
blown outputs that had speaker protection in place including a few Sony

XM
amps.

Then you've never used the old G-series Sonys or the "big reds".

Those
were
all OUTSTANDING amplifiers. Yes, Son't has always had very sensitive
portection circuits, but I'd rather have that than a blown up amp.

Well sweetness, wouldn't most amps display some sort of ill effect

if
you
over
drive them with bad speakers? I wouldn't say that Sony protection
circuits
are particularly aggressive, but I would say that they are poorly
designed
and
much too sensitive, if this is the case. But in all honesty you will
not
get
any good comments regarding Sony products out of me, as I have not
found
anything good to say about them this far.. Well other then their
digital
cameras.

Simple, dumbass. Overdriving them ot using them with bad speakers.
I've
plenty of speakers play fine on lower end amps that wouldn't play

on
most
Sony, or even SoundStream Rubicon, amps because the protection
circuits
are
particularly aggressive. Change the speakers and viola, the amp

works
fine.

Sony is crap and I don't mean just their amps, I have already

posted
this
before. Paul how do people abuse their sony amps more then any

other
brand
?
Can you use sony amps as ark-welders or maybe as fish finders?

Sony only has a bad rep because people abuse it, the protection
circuits
kick in and they think the amp is bad. It will be fine. In all
the
years I
was in retail (all 13 of them) I had less bad Sonys than every
other
brand
combined.
