SONY XM-460GTX 4channel?
Well, I've seen one good review on it. Sony does seem to be getting a bad name
from some people, I don't think everyone agrees. I haven't used Sony for a while so I am not for sure. Troy carbudgetaudio.com |

SONY XM-460GTX 4channel?
Sony only has a bad rep because people abuse it, the protection circuits
kick in and they think the amp is bad. It will be fine. In all the years I was in retail (all 13 of them) I had less bad Sonys than every other brand combined. SONY XM-460GTX 4channel?
What's wrong with it that it would get a bad rap? There was a guy that
finished second in competition with an all Sony setup. As long as the equipment is not abused and it has the specs. that you are looking for, don't worry about what other people think. I was thinking of getting that one too, to match my Sony XM-1600GSD amp. Then I said who cares about looks the amps are mounted under each front seat in my truck. I picked my amp off someone that indicated that there was something wrong with it. It ended up being a cold solder joint. What was neat about the Sony circuit board is that they etch diagnostic values at various locations on the board, so if you don't have a diagnostic schematic you can still at least zero in on the problem area, which was what I did. Simple, dumbass. Overdriving them ot using them with bad speakers. I've
plenty of speakers play fine on lower end amps that wouldn't play on most Sony, or even SoundStream Rubicon, amps because the protection circuits are particularly aggressive. Change the speakers and viola, the amp works fine. Paul Vina "Captain Howdy" wrote in message ... Sony is crap and I don't mean just their amps, I have already posted this before. Well sweetness, wouldn't most amps display some sort of ill effect if you over drive them with bad speakers? I wouldn't say that Sony protection circuits are particularly aggressive, but I would say that they are poorly designed and much too sensitive, if this is the case. But in all honesty you will not get any good comments regarding Sony products out of me, as I have not found anything good to say about them this far.. Well other then their digital cameras. all OUTSTANDING amplifiers. Yes, Son't has always had very sensitive portection circuits, but I'd rather have that than a blown up amp. Paul Vina "Captain Howdy" wrote in message ... I bought a Sony amp about 4 or 5 years ago from the local shop... can't remember the model number, but it was a light blue color. I ran the hell out of that thing pushing a Kenwood 12", then I ran 2 sets of coaxials off of its 2 channels, then my brother installed it in his Sporttrac running a set of Alutek components... And it never once went into protection mode, never once had a single problem. It was a great little amp. Nick |

Do you honestly think that speaker protection will save your amp? You would think so, but the truth it far from that. I have repaired countless amps with blown outputs that had speaker protection in place including a few Sony XM amps. Have a chat with your repair tech , unless you started doing repairs yesterday or don't do any repairs at all, then you should of come across this problem.
