Default Recomendation on a mini-system

I just need a basic 1 cd player with "decent" sound and AM/FM in the
$100 range.
I have been looking at the Phillips FWM143, which is $120 at CC but
online at New Egg for $80.

Any comments on this model or any readily available alternative in
this price range?
Would this system be at least modestly better than a $35 crapomatic
boombox from Walmart?

So take your favorite CD down to CC and WM and listen for yourself.
"Piezoelectric tweeters" would be an automatic turn-off to me. YMMV.

Dunno whether there is any significant difference in those low-end
plastic consumer gadgets. Did you look for reviews online?

I recommend almost any product other than Philips.

It is hard to know since most of these are built for appearances and
shelf appeal, not sound quality. The only way to know is to grab a
few of your CDs and try out the various players at the local shops.
