Likely old news, but there's a Mike Holmes column in today's Globe and
Mail which mentions:

California-based Quiet Solution has developed a
drywall called QuietRock -- designed to cut down
sound transfer. I've used the product and think it's
great. One sheet is equivalent to eight sheets of
regular drywall in the way it reduces noise.

It's expensive but it makes a huge difference ...

Yes, I prefer to get my acoustics technical information from the newspaper.

This is OT
Hey Ethan (while you're there). Do you think a 3 seat sofa in a mixing
room can attenuate reverb in a nice way? (ie act like a mini bass-
trap?) Thanks

I prefer the back seat of a 1965 Mustang.

Seriously Ethan, what's the scoop on this stuff? I've seen it
mentioned before but never gave much thought to chasing down any info.
I suppose it would have to be more "mass"ive and denser than GWB to be
of any use in an acoustical construct, correct? 8 layers of 5/8 GWB
is 5" thick...spread around the perimeter of a control or tracking
room, that's quite a bit of sq footage freed up, if it lives up to the
hype.

born back then?

Maybe a little, but there are a lot of couch types, different sizes,
stuffing, surfaces, etc. Also, to get a useable amount of bass trapping the
couch needs to be near a corner or at least in front of the rear wall.

If you need effective bass trapping, you're better off using tried and true
conventional methods.

I'm not much of an isolation expert. I've heard that QuietRock is effective
but overpriced for what it does. I never heard anyone confirm the 8-to-1
layers part. That would be too good to be true. Green Glue seems to be the
current darling of the industry for isolation:
