on my mesa boogie amp, I get a high pitch squeal that is only relieved
by turning down the reverb or switching the standby on and off. what do

Model number? Age? Anything else connected?

Too little information. Might be feedback, but that is similar to
stating the the sky might be up.

its a subway blues amp. its got 4 preamp tubes 12ax7 and 2 -el84s that all the info I have. jmb

That is at least a start. Now. What else is plugged into it when it
squeals. Does it do so with *nothing* plugged in, or only when an
instrument is plugged in, or both or randomly or at some other time?

And if when an instrument is plugged in, have you tried another
instrument? If so, did the same thing happen or something else?

Lastly, what - if anything - have you tried already?

it does it with any guitar plugged in ( also with or without a Boss DS
1 distortion unit plugged it on or off.) it doesn't do it unless its
being used for at least 10 minutes. then I toggle the standby on

there was a burning smell before this. but then I found a el84 with
the top blown off. the outlet its plugged into is a designated curcuit.
nothing else is on that curcuit. guitars are fenders, but the sound is
not a hum. one of the fenders has lace sensors. the volume is set at
10:00 or less.if the control on the back that works the effects send is
up , it seems like it was worse.
