Default Comments/Experience: the optimal "listening chair."

hi all,

well, this may be an odd topic of discussion, but i think it's a relevant
one. =)

i'm finally getting around to try to buy a decent couch for my listening
room. comfort-wise, i have found the pricey Ekornes Stressless sofa to be
excellent. well supported and cradles the entire body wonderfully even
without the recliner in action (in fact, i wish they sold this couch with
the high backs without the recliner option to save me a few bucks).

what i'm wondering though is this: will the high back (higher than head
level) have an adverse effect on the sound or is it good to have a
"cushy-absorbing" surface directly behind the ears/head?

anyone experimented much with this, done any measurements?

what is everyone out there sitting on while listening?

Ref: Listening chair..high backs and such.

Derek..

You are right the high-back does alter the sound.

Back a decade or so ago, I had a high back chair
that did affect the sound...I tended to lean forward
in the chair while listening..not comfortable. I
now have an Office type chair that comes up to the
shoulders. This sits off to the side of a small
couch that is in the so-called "sweet-spot". The
chair is in front of the Computer.

You're right..it does alter the sound to have that
high back behind your ears. I never got used to it.

Leonard...
