Default help with car audio system

Hello all,

i just bought a new car and i want a MEAN audio system for it now.
my budget is $500.Id like to spend the majority of that amount on
speakers.
In brands i have options of Pioneer,Sony and JBL.

Any suggestions?

With your budget, craigslist is your best friend. Craigshelper.com is a good
way to search multiple areas quickly. Check street values of components by
looking up closed auctions on ebay to see what people are actually paying
for stuff. Don't be too eager either.

Limiting yourself to those three brands is also kind of pointless. What if a
nice Alpine amp pops up with a real good price, are you going to hold out
for a Sony?

Well i dont think your going to exactly get a MEAN system with 500
bucks. You'll get a pretty good one but not great. If your lookin for
a really good upgrade for speakers alone you should look at what kind
of speakers you have in your car. Personally i would say that putting
components up front will make a system sound dramatically better
although it is not a must. I personally like Polk, Boston, Diamond and
other such brands.
