Default THERMIONIC CULTURE VULTURE

Hi there !

Does anybody know the distortion with valve power called "thermionic
culture vulture" which is currently reviewed in Future-Music?
Can't find anything about it on the net.

Thanx !

They get points from me for the table of selected performance parameters
versus gain near the bottom of
http://www.i-deas.net/~thermionic/earlybird.htm .

I'd like to see this chart for lots of other mic pres, particularly Mackie
consoles, the RNP, etc.

Me too. I think they lose points, though, for giving only THD figures for their
distortion map, with no info on harmonic content, and also for only giving
figures at 0dBV, without information on how the distortion increases with
level. They do claim +31dBV maximum output, but they don't say at what
distortion level.

Still, a more-than-usually useful set of specs, and the preamp certainly looks
like it has good features and performance.

Peace,
Paul

All points well taken.

I'd like to see some numbers for high frequency twin-tone IM.

I'll happily take a cup that's half-full compared to the current empty cup.

Just goes to show that you don't need to do it in solid state to get good
measured performance.
