Default Design Acoustics PS-5 verses PS-6

Sorry, didn't see that.

I'm crossposting my comments to rec.audio.tech in the hope that someone
there might have some ideas about the following.

many of you know I fried my PS-5's

What happened? Blown tweeters? Might be possible to get those replaced.
A good repair shop might be able to recommend replacement tweeters.

which were
part of a speaker system that includes two PS-5's and the matching
Subwoofer.

Is the Design Acoustics sub passive or powered with by own built-in
amp? If I remember correctly, this is a passive sub.

I have a chance to pick up a couple of PS-6's.

Why not just connect the seller's PS-6 speakers to your sub, listen to
the speakers, and decide if you like them?

I don't
know much about them other than they are a little bigger and have a
bit more bass response. The guy who has them thinks that is better
but I am not so sure, where they are matched to a subwoofer, more bass
isn't what I need, I am looking for clarity. I think they do match
the PS-6 as they do the PS-5

I'm guessing the PS-5 is similar to the PS-55. If so, here's a little
more info:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Design-Acoustics...temZ5844947250

Maybe you could try the above?

And here's the PS-6a, which I assume is similar to the PS-6:

http://cgi.ebay.com/DESIGN-ACOUSTICS...temZ5844867770

Also, maybe you could search the web and see if Design Acoustics has a
web site and/or an official repair place?

Do you have the manuals and/or any contact info such as a phone number
for Design Acoustics? If so, call their service department. Looking at
the photos on eBay, I see an Ohio address for DA shown on the back of a
speaker and also that DA is a brand from Audio Technica, which I
believe makes phono cartridges. You could call Audio Technica and ask
for advice, parts, service, repairs etc.

Another thought is that you could check eBay every week or so.
Eventually, you might see some PS-5 speakers there.

to the same subwoofer as a system, but
not 100% sure. When I bought my system, I heard them liked them and
bought them, which isn't the normal way I buy equipment, but they just
seemed right, and they were and still are after about 16 years of use,
I still like them a whole lot or did until I fried them.

Any information about the this issue that can help me make a good
decision would be greatly appreciated. If someone has owned or
atleast heard both with the subwoofer

Sorry, haven't heard any of the Design Acoustics stuff, but I remember
the brand.

and has an opinion that would be
the best, but any information is good.

Sorry I can't give more specific advice, but maybe the above can get
you moving in the right direction.

Thanks
Barry

Default Design Acoustics PS-5 verses PS-6

The last known source for DA parts, several years ago, was P.S. Technologies
in Buffalo. Don't know what their supply may be now. Tel 716 667-2748
