Sound Proofing
I'm just about to open a 2 room rehearsal suite in Leicester city centre...
I need both rooms sound proofing and a couple of partition walls and suspeneded cielings taking out. Anyone know a good company to use? The service, quality and reliability of the builders could make or break my whole business so I'd like a recomendation before I hire anyone. |

Is there a reason you can't do it yourself? It would substantially reduce your upfront costs, and you'd learn a ton in the process. Good luck! Corey |

It it involves asbestos or other hazardous materials, he may not want to handle it himself, or it may be tha tthe city requires a licensed contractor to dispose of it properly. If it's real sound proofing (like a solid block wall) disposing of the materials, hazardous or not, is going to be a major project. I don't know what it's like over there, but ove here you can hire a contractor and maybe if you're lucky they'll show up to do the job. |

Sound Proofing
I had a studio in London a while back and I fitted it out at the same time
as a pro did the unit next door. I basically split the unit into seperate rooms with stud walls, laid a foor on rockwool panels and built airtight rooms on that floor padded with rockwool, spaced form the other walls and quadruple glazed. It took forever to do and the pro in the unit next door obviously did a much better job of his and I'd like it to look good and do the job well because it's for comercial use. Anyone in the UK had a reliable contractor do their soundproofing??? |

As far as handling Asbestos, if you only do it once in a while, wear a respirator (which is rentable), and handle it wet as much as possible, it really isn't that dangerous. Of course, as you said, licensing requirements differ everywhere. I pulled up the asbestos tiles that were on the floor in what has now become our studio myself, and as it was a residence I was able to just throw it out in the trash (I checked with the authorities! That's what they said to do!). This being a commercial endeavor, there may very well be other issues. I don't know what it's like over there, but ove here you can hire a contractor and maybe if you're lucky they'll show up to do the job. Very true in these parts as well, Mike. Corey |
