Default Philips CD Transports

It's ironic that one of the most highly incorporated CD transports in todays upper echelon CD players employ an only slightly modifed transport technology developed in the early 1980's. Namely, the Philips CDM-4. But, if it really works then why break with a winning formula...
I've attached a picture of it's other high quality kissing cousin, the CDM2.
