Had one for about three or four years and suddenly it's like
screeching, tweetering and making all kinds of alarming shocking noises
and the lights barely come on. Is this a typical sign of death. Repair
possibilities?

Call Bose customer service at their 800 number and inquire how much they
charge for a repair of that radio. It's usually a fixed rate, regardless of
the problem.
