I'm thinking that stereo wasn't the objective. Probably looking to
combine the mics to to one track either going in or at mixdown. I
sure as hell wouldn't bother doing anything like it.

More likely just to get takes with two choices of mic to use one of.

This will not create a stereo field. This is what happens when engineers
can't make decisions in tracking and so they throw up three different mikes
and let the mixing engineer worry about the problem.

Silly - destroying all your mics _input_ with the reflections from the other
mics bodies and fittings. In productivity land you need to commit and move
on.

Right. This is the I don't have a clue setup or the she goes from a whisper
to a scream setup with one record track set lower and one higher.
