Default wmp9 cannot play 24 bit sound file

I have a couple of wav files recorded on a 24bit device. They play
fine in Cakewalk Sonar but I can't get them to play in wmp9. WMP9
keeps saying 'Error downloading codec' and then a box comes up saying
'Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error'. I tried searching
on google and downloaded and tried oggcodecs_0.71.0946.exe, that
didn't work. I also tried ffdshow_beta3_rev1324_20070701_clsid.exe,
that didn't work either. I've been through the options in wmp9,
nothing works. Is there a codec or a plugin I can download that will
make wmp9 play a 24bit sound file?

No. WMP9's tech standard does not allow for 24 audio. They are
incompatible.
