Using 4 ohm dash speakers in parallel with the door speakers.
I found that my '95 Chrysler LeBaron is prewired for dash speakers,
and the shop manual shows that they will be in parallel with the door speakers**. The only 3 1/2 inch speakers I find are 4 ohm, and I'm afraid to put such a low impedance in parallel with the door speakers, which are either 4 or 8. The total impedance will be either 2 ohms or 2 2/3 ohms. Is this safe, with the factory radio? When I'm on the highway, I sometimes play the radio at maximum volume. (It's not the Infinity radio, which has a separate amp.) Thanks. **(Plus speakers on either side of the rear seat, of course.) I have done it before without problems, but it is not for sure that you wont blow the outputs of the radio. You could put a low pass filter on the door speakers. If they are factory there probably isnt a tweeter on them. and put a high pass filter on the 3.5's They wont play the lower frequecies well anyway, overlap the cutoff point a little then it would make it a lot more reliable as the amplifier in the radio will only see the load at the given frequency that the speaker is allowed to play. It would give you a component speaker effect. Good luck! acØj |
