Linn Keilidh with Rotel RA-02: a good match?
Hello there, my first post here.
I'm having the opportunity to buy the aformentionned equipment at a very interesting price. 800$CAN for the Keilidhs (about 550$US, 2-3 years old with 2 years warranty) and 575$CAN for the Rotel (maybe 400$US, new b-stock with full-warranty). I heard them at the store and I felt the they sounded excellent, especially with jazz and classical music, though not very strong in the lower frequencies, but I was expecting that with that type of speakers. The bass was very clear while not being overwhelming. It's about the most money I can spend on new audio equipment right now, and I'm not experienced with better than entry-level audio. Do you think I'm making a good deal, and do you think the Rotel has the guts to drive the Keilidhs in the long run? From what I read, a more powerful amp is recommanded, though the Rotel is supposed to be able to handle 4 ohms loads (like the Keilidhs) if only 1 pair of speakers is used with it. I don't plan to play them extremely loud, but they will work several hours a day. I'm pretty decided to take the speakers, but I might choose to wait to have more money for a bigger amp. And while we're at it, I'm planning to use extensively the phono line, so opinion on this would be appreciated as well. Any thoughts welcomed. Thanks. |
