My guess is that it's a mercury rectifier. Rather like a smaller cousin to the 866. Looks like a vacuum HV diode, perhaps for radar clipper service. Appears
to have a graphite anode. Bob Weiss N2IXK JKoning wrote: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=3800736 399 543 ??? Duncan and Frank don't know... Strange shaped outer electrode. What is it? Anybody? Rgds, Jan. |

As I recall TDSL has it somewhere. 10kV PIV 2A peak? diode, 2.5V 10A or so filament. Hi, did a google search on this thing and turned up with the following from e-ham. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1266 It has gain, so it must be an amplifying device of some type, five connections, so i suppose it is a triode. Looks like it is used for RF work. If it is and that is an anode cap, looks like it will support high voltages. just my tuppenceworth. kind regards bill ramsay |

Base type and electrode connections of 811A look similar to the 543 : http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/049/8/811A.pdf Plate construction of the 811A looks quite different : http://frank.pocnet.net/photos/049/8/811A.jpg compared to the plate construction of the 543 : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=3800736 399 But, looking at what they share, I guess assumptions for the 543 like "RF", "Triode" and "HV" etc. are safe to make. Yet some mystery remains, so, RATS get up in the attic and un-dust those old data books! BTW, AFAIK, H&K of San Francisco later became Eimac which again became Varian Associates. Regards, Jan. |
