Fellow Rodents,
Is there someone or someplace that is really good at making cutouts in chassis? They should charge a fair price, especially since this may be a slow yet ongoing relationship. For example, I might send them a wooden chassis from Welborne and have them punch holes for the various components. I suppose I'll leave the details up to them. Remember the word is "good." cordially, west |

Remember the word is "good." cordially, west Wooden chassis? Man, don't you need a carpenteer, not a metalworker? Most metalworkers I know hate wood, it splits, has grain running all whichaway, rots, shrinks, and burns if the temperature permits, and splinters when you put the hole puncher to work. But I did once prepare a wooden surround and top cover fixed over a metal chassied amp with 4 x KT90 trioded in each, and I wood think that the owner who wanted this done could be regretting the heat damage to the plywood top. I guess he has had cause to get out the saw and sandpaper, remove most of the top, and paint the metal with AL paint, or matt black. But then back in 1954, there was a 400 watt amp design in Wireless World using 10 x KT88 with a peice of 3/4" plywood as the chassis, with all the bits on spacers, breadboard style. I wonder where all those old amps went to.... Patrick Turner. |

Check hole saws at Home Depot and a good cordless drill if you don't have one. there are metal fabricators in every city
most have arbor presses. this is the best way to cut your holes in your chassis unless it is stainless then they say you have to use a plasma cutter for really fine work. but look in yellow pages under metalwork or sheet metal draw a diagram on paper where you want the holes made.
