Unfortunately, it is the other way around.

If you /are/ a software pirate, Product Activation does not matter
because you use a cracked version anyway.

If you are /not/ a software pirate and do not want to be one, Product
Activation means that whether you install on your machine today,
tomorrow or on the computer you may buy in the future, you are forever
dependent on the software manufacturer and their "activation" service
in order to work with your own data.

That is unacceptable, and even more so if you are not a software pirate.
