Well, you could set up two chairs as if two guitar players were
playing together. Set up a stereo coincident pair of mics to record
the "two" guitar players. Then, just record once while sitting in one
chair, then a second time while sittling in the second chair.

Put the stereo mic pair where the listener would be.

I emphatically respect and appreciate the advice i got here, and the
patience of tolerating my simplistic questions. I am definitely a
Newbie. I realize this is more an art than a science and there are
just too many variables to give a 'best solution' without knowing all
the details. But if you care to waste some time, please indulge
yourselves. Here's the simple task that i wish to accomplish. I want
to record/mix two tracks (both acoustic guitar). The tracks will be
recorded separately (myself playing). I have two cortioid condenser
mics (MXL603), a Behringer mixer, and cakewalk home studio. Now,
assume i have found a good mic placement technique that will give me a
decent stereo image of one guitar, and assume the room acoustics are
OK (I know that's a big sore point here). How should i record the
second guitar and mix them together. Should i change the mic placement
slightly. Ah, what is desired you may ask. Well, I would like the
final product to sound as if i am sitting in from of two guitarist,
maybe the are separated by a few feet, and i am a few feet in front of
them, like a triangle not necessarily equilateral. That is, as in most
situations, I want it to sound as if I'm sitting there listening to it
live, in that same room.
