Umm, you mean the same route as LP players?

The nearest Blockbuster (probably the largest and busiest in my state) is
overwhelmingly DVD-oriented for new releases.


BTW, VCRs will have a longer life as time-shifting devices than as players
of prerecorded movies.

The thing is, however, is that many obscure yet excellent films will
probably never get converted into DVD format.


The relevant word here is "obscure".

Is the movie "Little Big Man", for example, in DVD form?


Just like has been happening with vinyl, obscure recordings that aren't
re-released commercially, will be recorded to DVD by amateurs.
