Loudspeakers are pretty much the only analog part that remains
necesary in the playback chain (OK analog amps are still required
*because* of analog speakers). As mentioned elsewhere in another
recent posting, pretty much everything else is now capable of being
delivered by low-cost, commodity computer-based technology.
I wonder if we'll ever see practical, affordable digital speakers

hi-fi speaker manufacturers remain necessary for high-end
non-headphone-delivered hi-fi for the forseeable future?
