You don't need to replace the deck, you need to have it serviced. Tape
eating can be caused by lots of things, often a combination of them. Dirty
heads, pinch roller and guides, incorrect back tension, dirty loading
mechanism etc. etc. It's not something you can do yourself unless you have
alignment and torque tapes, a good scope and the know-how.

If you are in the UK I can do this for you, unless you have covered the
mechanism in some sort of gunk. That was a really bad idea. Send me and

A good cleaning might clear the problem up. The crud on the guides
and capstan are the usual culprits on my DA-30.
