I have an old Nak ZX-7 deck which hasn't been used for quite a while. I
tried it today and rewind and fast forward work ok. When I hit play,
the tape doesn't move. Any ideas?

Your best bet would be to send your machine to a Nakamichi repair center
like Electronics Service Labs in Wethersfield, Ct. They have the know how
necessary to fix and recalibrate these machines. Nakamichi machines perform
well when working, but are quite complicated and difficult to fix. They also
drift out of optimal mechanical and electrical alignment over time. I
wouldn't tackle this on your own unless you really know what you're doing.
Unfortunately, it probably won't be an inexpensive repair.
