View Full Version : Navigation system for a 2004 Acura TL

Hi all:
My wife just purchased a 2004 Acura TL. She wanted the one with navigation
system but they are nowhere to be found here in South Florida. I would like
to get recommendations for a navigation system for that car. I would like to
get one that is easy to use and that will integrate well in the
dashboard/center console. I looked at the Pioneer, but they seem way too
expensive. The Alpine kit (nav-200) looks nice and the price is ok. I do not
know who else makes navigation systems. She already has the Alpine CDA-9815.
What I do not know is if there is a unit that can be integrated with it (any
brand) or will the navigation system run independently from the head unit?
This will be the first navigation system I will purchase, so I do not know
much about them. Please let me know what my options are. TIA.

You have installed the 9815 into the 04 TL?

All of the navi systems on the market will be separate from the HU. I like
the Alpine system personally. The Pioneer is a little prettier to look at,
but the Alpine is worlds easier to use, faster and has better mapping and
more points of interest. You can also connect the Alpine navi to the aux in
on the 9815 and when the nav gives you a voice command it will mute the
stereo and the voice will play through the cars speakers.

Have you considered things like:

Dash kit?
Steering wheel controls?
Bose intergration?
Does the car have the factory changer?

I will let the installer worry about that.

> Steering wheel controls?
I have a remote control for the Alpine and the cruise control will not be
affected.

> Bose intergration?
Chuck Bose! I have an Alpine! I will also replace the Bose speakers with BA
Pro's (which I already have for front, rear and sub) and I will power the
system with an Xtant 603x (which I also have).

> Does the car have the factory changer?
I have a 12 CD Alpine changer.

Thanks anyway for your concern.

Glad to hear you have it under control.

Would you be willing to sell your Acura Headunit?

I keep my headunits to put them back when I sell the car, but I am pretty
sure you can find some on ebay.
